Questions people ask
Yes, but the list is short and most of it is one-bedrooms. On the rents the complexes post on their own websites, the market-rate apartments under $1,000 are the one-bedrooms at Watermark at Baytown ($835 to $850), a one-bedroom at The Park at Sorrento Apartment Homes (from $906), two-bedrooms starting around $955 at Watermark, and Marina Club, which advertises a studio from $541, a one-bedroom from $755 and a two-bedroom from $918.

Under $800 you are mostly looking at income-restricted properties, an older complex that won't post its rent, or a room. The only market-rate prices under $600 are the Marina Club studio, and they need a phone call to confirm.
These are starting prices, and leasing offices change them daily, so use them to decide whom to call rather than what to budget.
The cheapest rents in Baytown are usually in the oldest buildings, and the oldest buildings are the ones least likely to show a price online. Bayview Apartments, at 6900 North Main Street, lists one-, two- and three-bedroom homes without rents and allows pets with a $150 deposit, a $150 fee and $25 a month. Oaks of Baytown Apartments, at 2011 Ward Road, says outright that pricing changes daily and shows none, with plans from 713 to 1,428 square feet and pets at a $200 deposit, $10 a month and a $100 policy fee. Call both, because either can land under $1,000 for a one-bedroom and a posted number can't tell you. The cheap apartments guide explains what cheap buys in this town.
Three properties post numbers in this range, and the first two are priced by income rules rather than the market. Courtyards at Crosby, at 303 Krenek Road, is a 97-unit USDA Rural Development property with one-bedrooms at $815 to $832, two-bedrooms at $860 to $877 and three-bedrooms at $890 to $907. Country Terrace, Highlands, Texas, at 2500 East Wallisville Road, is also USDA-financed and posts an overall range of $745 to $770 without splitting it by bedroom count. Newport Village Apartments, at 5925 FM 2100 in Crosby, posts one-bedrooms from $360 to $885, two-bedrooms from $405 to $1,034 and a three-bedroom at $1,321. A spread that wide usually means different unit types or income-based pricing on some units, but the site does not say which, so ask which units carry the low number and what income limits apply.
These are a drive from Baytown, in Crosby and Highlands, and they come with paperwork. The income-based housing page explains how the qualifying works and the Texas state search for rent-reduced units.
A $900 apartment can cost $1,050 once you add the parts the price leaves out.
The median gross rent for Baytown is $1,307 against $1,361 for the Houston area, so a $1,000 cap is below the middle of the market. You are looking at the older, smaller or farther-out end of it. The cost of living page has the rest of the budget, and the no credit check guide covers the people whose problem is the application, not the price.
If the listing you want doesn't exist, the other sources are not online. Sterling Municipal Library, at 1 Mary Wilbanks Avenue, still has a bulletin board, and garage apartments and duplexes on the north side are found by driving. The Baytown Housing Authority, at 1805 Cedar Bayou Road, runs public housing and administers housing choice vouchers; ask it whether the waiting lists are open before you plan around it.
The cheapest rents are in the oldest buildings, and the oldest buildings are the least likely to post a price.
Llame a ambos.
