Questions people ask
How do I report speeding or dangerous driving in Baytown?
Use the Traffic Enforcement Request Form for traffic violations you have seen that are not an emergency. The police department says it uses the form to improve driver education and to get people to follow traffic laws on their own. The form is only for traffic violations. Speeding, red light violations and other dangerous driving all count.
Pick the right door
Use 911 for anything happening right now or any emergency. A driver who is weaving across lanes, a crash, or a person in danger is a 911 call, not a form.
Use the Traffic Enforcement Request Form for traffic violations you have seen that are not an emergency. Use the Better Baytown app for other traffic or sign problems, such as a damaged sign. The city's page sends those concerns to the app, not to the police form.
What to tell them
The city asks citizens who see speeding, red light violations or other dangerous driving to contact the Traffic Management Team and give two things: the license plate number of the vehicle, and a description of what happened. The page lists a phone number for the team; you can find it on the city's page. You can also send the same information online through the Traffic Enforcement Request Form.
A useful report is short and specific. Write down the street, the time, the direction the car was going, the plate number and what you saw, and send it when you are safe. Do not follow the car and do not argue with the driver.
What the form is for
The department says it welcomes reports of any traffic concern people see in Baytown and encourages people to use these methods.
Rules for carts and trucks
The same city page links to rules that come up often. It lists pages on all-terrain vehicle operation, golf cart operation under the Texas Transportation Code, the city's ordinances for motorized carts and golf carts, and truck route regulations. It also gives a way to report illegal operation of these vehicles. If a loud truck keeps using a street that is not a truck route, those pages are the place to check the rule first.
