Lee College, as an employer and as the door

Lee College is both a local employer and one of Baytown's clearest routes into plant, healthcare, logistics and public-service work. Lee reported a record 9,616 students for fall 2026, and the plants treat it as their hiring pipeline.
The short version
- Lee College hires faculty, instructors, advisors, technicians, police, facilities and office staff.
- Its technical programs feed plant, craft, logistics, healthcare and education careers across the area.
- Career services can help connect a program choice to a real local employer.
Why it matters here
Lee College is one of the rare Baytown employers that also trains people for many of the other employers on this list. The college was established in 1934 as Lee Junior College of Goose Creek. Its first semester enrolled 177 students, and the first graduation in 1935 had four graduates. Technical and vocational instruction started in 1936, which makes the workforce side of the college part of its history rather than a recent add-on.
The scale is still growing. Lee College reported a record 9,616 students for fall 2026, up from 8,930 in fall 2025. Those students are not all headed to the same kind of job. Some are completing transfer courses. Others are training for process technology, welding, instrumentation, electrical work, nursing, logistics, criminal justice and other public-safety and local careers.
That mix shapes the work inside the college too. Faculty teach academic courses and technical programs. Advisors, librarians, financial-aid staff, career staff and student-services teams walk students through the paperwork and the choices. Maintenance, information technology, campus safety and business-office employees keep the institution running. In workforce programs, credibility often comes from knowing the field as real work, not only as a textbook subject.
Lee is more than a campus at Lee Drive and Market Street. It is where a high-school student can start dual credit, where an adult can retrain after a layoff, and where a plant worker can come back for another credential. That is why the employer matters here. The work inside Lee College is tied directly to the next generation of operators, nurses, technicians, teachers and public employees who will keep Baytown running.
The college has been part of Baytown since 1934
Lee College began in 1934 as Lee Junior College with 177 students. It was renamed in 1948 and separated from the school district in 1965.
Its service area now covers more than 200,000 people. Enrollment was 8,943 in the fall of 2024, the record at the time, and 9,616 in the fall of 2026. Locals call it "the campus," and the plants think of it as their hiring pipeline.

As an employer, it is more than a faculty roster
Lee College hires faculty and adjuncts, lab and shop instructors, advisors, library staff, information technology, facilities workers, campus police, Performing Arts Center staff, student-services workers and business-office staff.
Workforce-program instructors often arrive after years in the field. A welding instructor, for example, is expected to know the craft as work, not only as curriculum.
Openings run through the college's employment page and the employer table.
As a doorway, the program should match the job
- Process Technology → operator jobs at plants and the Mont Belvieu hub; see a day as an operator.
- Industrial Welding Technology, Process Piping Design and Pipefitting → craft work; see a day as a pipefitter and welder.
- Instrumentation, Analytical Instrumentation and Electrical Technology → instrument and electrical technician work.
- Industrial Systems Technician → machinist, millwright and industrial-maintenance work.
- Safety Management Technology → industrial safety work.
- Class A CDL, Forklift, Logistics & Supply Chain Management → distribution, warehousing and driving; see a day as a driver.
- Nursing, Clinical Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy and EKG Technician → Houston Methodist Baytown and clinics; see a day as a nurse.
- Teacher Education and Child Development → Goose Creek CISD and childcare; see a day as a teacher.
- Criminal Justice → law-enforcement and justice-system work, including the city's police academy and the county.
- HVAC, Fiber Optics, Cosmetology, Professional Administrative Technology, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing and Computer-Aided Drafting → service, office and technical work around the region.
- Dual credit → an early start on many of these pathways while still in high school, from Goose Creek or Barbers Hill at sixteen.
The employer connection is not theoretical
Lee College's Corporate College provides customized workforce training. The college names ExxonMobil, Covestro, Corteva, LyondellBasell, Kuraray, Talke USA and Worley among companies it has trained.
It does not guarantee a job, but it shows who sits close to the program.
How to use Lee if you are still deciding
Walk into Career and Transfer Services on a weekday afternoon and ask two questions: which employers hire from the program you are considering, and what financial-aid or workforce funding may apply. Tuition and start dates change by term, so ask for the current schedule and the application deadline for the next one.
Then compare the program length, credential and likely first job. A short certificate, a two-year technical degree and a transfer degree solve different problems.
Who this place can fit
Lee works best when the program is chosen backward from the job. "I want to work at a plant" is too broad; operator, instrument technician and welder require different preparation.
In a lot of towns the community college is where you go when the plan didn't work. In Baytown it is the plan.
