Grito Fest — the standing guide

Baytown's Grito Fest fills Bicentennial Park, with a Pre-Grito downtown the night before. Go early, park at Lee College, and expect a family evening that turns into a loud concert.

The 2026 festival, October 2–3

Baytown's biggest night of the year. The Mexican Independence Day celebration, and the city's Hispanic Heritage Month anchor: the Pre-Grito Party on Friday night at Town Square, on Texas Avenue, and the festival itself on Saturday at Bicentennial Park, a few blocks off the avenue, with a headliner on the main stage, food vendors the length of the park, folklórico, grito and accordion contests, and the grito itself — the cry — at the top of the hour before the headliner, when a park full of people all shout it back. The contests include the Grito Shout, accordion, jalapeño eating, backyard salsa and restaurant salsa.

When

A Saturday in early fall, with a Pre-Grito the night before in most years. In 2026 it was the first Saturday of October, and the Baytown Sun's coverage of the 2025 festival ran on October 6, 2025. The date floats, so the calendar card and the City's page are the source. If a future year's card is blank, it hasn't been announced yet.

Where

Saturday: Bicentennial Park, 1001 Market Street, gates in the late afternoon. Friday: Town Square on Texas Avenue for the Pre-Grito Party. Any street closures post on the Living Here page when the city releases them.

What the City says to bring — and leave home

- Chairs and blankets are welcome. - Coolers are allowed. But no glass containers or alcohol. - No personal drones, grills, BBQ pits or open flames. - No motorized vehicles on park grounds. - Bags, coolers and wagons may be inspected. - Within 200 feet of the stage and crowd area, no smoking or vaping and no personal pets other than service animals. - Shade tents are allowed during the first half of the concert and must come down at dusk.

Parking

Park at Lee College, across the street — that's the City's own guidance, with accessible parking at the Lee College Performing Arts Center — and walk over. The later you arrive, the fuller everything near the park gets. Rideshare in is easy; rideshare out when the concert ends is everyone's idea at once, so walk to the college lot to meet it. Friday night, downtown's on-street parking around Texas Avenue fills as the evening goes.

Eating

The vendors are part of the night, and the lines grow as the evening does. Plenty of people eat an early dinner nearby — Bocanegra's or Black Bayou — and treat the vendors as dessert: elotes, aguas frescas and churros. Check each restaurant's hours before you plan around it.

Kids

A family event through the evening, a loud concert at the end. Ear protection for anyone under six. The kids' area sits at the far end from the stage; the stage end is for the crowd.

Weather

Early October in Baytown can still be ninety degrees at five in the evening. Water, a hat, a place to sit that isn't the curb. Old hands remember shows pausing and people crowding under the awnings on Texas Avenue when weather rolls in. Do not treat that memory as the event's weather plan: follow event staff and City alerts, and do not assume a paused show will restart.

Rideshare in is easy; rideshare out when the concert ends is everyone's idea at once, so walk to the college lot to meet it.

History

The festival grew out of the city's Hispanic community celebrations and became the downtown anchor as Texas Avenue came back. The Baytown Sun put the 2025 crowd near 5,500.

The City of Baytown tells the start of it this way: Grito Fest began as a small neighborhood celebration at N.C. Foote Park. As attendance and impact grew, the city made it an official city festival and moved it to Bicentennial Park. The community members who helped start the tradition still sit on the committee that gives input on the festival's details, and some serve as emcees at the event. The city counts Grito Fest among the five major events its Parks and Recreation Department hosts each year, and says those events average about 7,000 people each. The city's page describes the festival as free and not ticketed, held on the first Saturday of October during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Nurture Nature comes the following Saturday, October 10 in 2026, at the Nature Center — the other big October weekend. The Market at Town Square runs the third Saturday. October in Baytown is three good Saturdays in a row.

For next year: Friday at Town Square for the Pre-Grito, when the avenue is the party. Saturday: eat early, park at the college, be at the stage before the headliner, and shout it back. Then Nurture Nature the next Saturday and the Market the one after.

Grito Fest es la celebración anual del Mes de la Herencia Hispana en Baytown y la noche más grande del año: el Pre-Grito el viernes en Town Square, en Texas Avenue, y el festival el sábado en Bicentennial Park. En 2026, el Pre-Grito fue el viernes 2 de octubre a las 6 p.m. en Baytown Town Square, 213 W. Texas Avenue, organizado por Historic Baytown ACE. El festival fue el sábado 3 de octubre, de 4:30 a 10:30 p.m., en Bicentennial Park, 1001 Market Street, con De Parranda como artista principal de 9 a 10:30 p.m. y el grito a la hora en punto antes del concierto. Qué llevar y qué dejar en casa

La Ciudad permite sillas, cobijas y hieleras, pero no vidrio ni alcohol. No se permiten drones, parrillas ni fuego abierto, ni vehículos motorizados en el parque. Las bolsas y las hieleras pueden revisarse. A menos de 200 pies del escenario no se puede fumar ni vapear, y solo se admiten animales de servicio. Los toldos de sombra se permiten durante la primera mitad del concierto y deben bajarse al anochecer.

Estacionamiento, comida y niños

Estacione en Lee College, al otro lado de la calle; el estacionamiento accesible está en el Performing Arts Center. Entre más tarde llegue, más lleno estará todo cerca del parque. Pedir transporte de aplicación para llegar es fácil; para salir, todos lo piden a la vez, así que camine hasta el estacionamiento de la universidad. Coma temprano: las filas de los vendedores crecen conforme avanza la noche. Es un evento familiar con un concierto fuerte al final; proteja los oídos de los menores de seis años. El clima y la historia

El Baytown Sun calculó la asistencia de 2025 en unas 5,500 personas. La Ciudad de Baytown cuenta el origen así: el Grito Fest empezó como una pequeña celebración de vecindario en N.C. Foote Park. Cuando creció la asistencia y su impacto, la ciudad lo volvió un festival oficial y lo trasladó a Bicentennial Park. Los miembros de la comunidad que ayudaron a iniciar la tradición siguen en el comité que opina sobre los detalles del festival, y algunos son presentadores durante el evento. La ciudad cuenta el Grito Fest entre los cinco eventos principales que organiza cada año su Departamento de Parques y Recreación, y dice que esos eventos reciben en promedio a unas 7,000 personas cada uno.
