Neighborhood

Bayfront / Bayway

The reason the city is called Baytown.

A peninsula of wetlands and a cable-stayed bridge that is the city’s unofficial monument. The Nature Center (500 acres), Bayland Park’s Buddy McBride ramps, the Hyatt on the marina, O’Neals on the water, views of the largest refinery in the United States. This is not a beach town. It is a working waterfront with a bird sanctuary attached, which is a stranger and better combination.

Thompson’s Fish Camp is not here — that launch is 213 Simms Road at Tri-City Beach, east-bay, a different zip. People keep googling it onto Bayway. Don’t.

Parking. Nature Center lots ($4 entry). Hyatt garage for the marina. Do not stop on the Hartman span.
