Voting in Baytown on November 3: the dates, the places and what's on your ballot

Voter registration for the November 3 election closed Monday, October 5. Early voting runs October 19 through October 30, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Here is what Baytown voters need to know, whichever side of the county line they live on.

Key dates

  • Monday, October 19: early voting begins.
  • Friday, October 23: last day for the county to receive your application for a mail ballot. A postmark does not count.
  • Friday, October 30: early voting ends.
  • Tuesday, November 3: Election Day, polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Mail ballots must arrive by 7 p.m. on November 3. A ballot whose envelope is postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day still counts if it arrives by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4.
  • Monday, October 5: the registration deadline. It has passed.

Voting by mail in Texas is limited to voters who are 65 or older, sick or disabled, expecting to be away from the county during early voting and on Election Day, expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day, or in jail but otherwise eligible. Everyone else votes in person.

If you missed the registration deadline

Texas has no same-day registration, so a voter who was not registered by October 5 generally cannot vote in this election. You can still check your status on the Secretary of State's "Am I Registered?" page at votetexas.gov. If you have moved or changed your name, you can update your record online through Texas.gov. If you are not registered at all, register now so you are ready for the next election, and ask your county voter registrar about your own case.

If you live on the Harris County side

Harris County lets you vote at any of its vote centers, during early voting and on Election Day. Early voting hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day from October 19 to 30, except Sunday, October 25, when hours are noon to 7 p.m.

Early voting sites in Baytown:

  • Baytown Community Center, Tejas Room, 2407 Market Street.
  • J.D. Walker Community Center, 7613 Wade Road.

Nearby early voting sites include the San Jacinto Community Center in Highlands, the Crosby Community Center, the Martin Flukinger Community Center in Channelview, and the Evelyn Kennedy Civic Center in La Porte.

On Election Day, Harris County lists many vote centers across Baytown, including Baytown Community Center, J.D. Walker Community Center, Lee College Gymnasium, Goose Creek Memorial High School, the Hugh Echols Public Service Center on West Baker Street, Ashbel Smith, James Bowie, William B. Travis and De Zavala elementary schools, Cedar Bayou Junior School and the GCCISD Robotics Center. Locations can change, so check the county's current list before you go.

If you live on the Chambers County side

Part of east Baytown is in Chambers County, which runs its own election. The county posts its sample ballots for the City of Baytown precincts, a notice of its early voting polling places and its Election Day polling locations on its elections page. Chambers County sets its own sites and hours, so they can differ from Harris County's. Check the county's current notice for your site and hours before you go. Polls on Election Day are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., as everywhere in Texas.

What to bring

Texas requires one of seven forms of photo ID: a Texas driver license, a Texas election identification certificate, a Texas personal identification card, a Texas handgun license, a U.S. military ID card with photo, a U.S. citizenship certificate with photo, or a U.S. passport, book or card.

For voters 18 to 69, an ID can be expired up to four years. For voters 70 and older, an ID can be expired for any length of time if it is otherwise valid. If you do not have one and cannot reasonably get one, you can sign a reasonable impediment declaration at the polls and show a supporting document, such as your voter registration certificate, a utility bill, a bank statement, a government check, a paycheck or a birth certificate.

What's on the ballot

Most of the ballot is similar across Baytown:

  • U.S. Senate.
  • U.S. House. Your district depends on your address: under the new congressional map, Baytown voters may be in District 9 or District 36. Your sample ballot shows which.
  • Governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, land commissioner, agriculture commissioner and railroad commissioner.
  • Seats on the Texas Supreme Court, the Court of Criminal Appeals, the State Board of Education and several appeals courts.
  • State senate and state house seats, which depend on where you live.
  • County offices and judges, which differ between Harris and Chambers counties and by precinct.

The City of Baytown's own races are for City Council:

  • District 4: James Franco and Jamari Gilbert.
  • District 5: Kelly Laird and John Farris.
  • District 6: Mike Lester and Joseph Chapa.

Only voters who live in those three council districts will see a council race. Districts 1 and 3 voted in 2025, and the mayor's seat is not on this year's ballot. The Harris County sample ballot shows no Goose Creek CISD or Lee College contests, City of Baytown propositions or Texas constitutional amendments. Your own sample ballot is the final word.

See your own ballot

The fastest way to know exactly what you will vote on is your sample ballot. Harris County residents can look theirs up at harrisvotes.com under "What's on my Ballot." Chambers County residents can find theirs by precinct on the county's elections page. Check your registration at votetexas.gov.

After the polls close: results, rosters and the City Clerk

Harris County posts its election results on the Election Results page of its elections site, harrisvotes.com. Chambers County keeps a Results tab on its Current Elections page. The City of Baytown's Voter Resources page links the early voting daily rosters for each county, which list who has voted so far, and it repeats the photo ID rules above. It also points to the Texas Secretary of State's site for checking your registration.

For the city's own council races, the City Clerk's Office at Baytown City Hall, 2401 Market Street, is the office to ask. The City's Election Information page lists the dates for the Districts 4, 5 and 6 election: early voting October 19 through October 30, and Election Day November 3. The City also posts its election notices in English, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese, including the ordinance calling the election and a notice that voters with certain disabilities have voting-order priority. The applications and campaign reports of the six candidates are on the City's candidates page.

Read the fine print

  • Candidate names for City Council are as listed by the City of Baytown. The order on your ballot may differ.
  • Voting locations and hours come from the county election offices and can change; check before you go.
  • HERE Baytown does not endorse candidates or positions.

Before you go

  • Check your registration status at votetexas.gov. The deadline to register for this election was October 5.
  • Bring an acceptable photo ID.
  • Look up your sample ballot before you go so you know every race you will see.
  • Want a mail ballot? Your application must reach the county by October 23, and only the eligibility categories above qualify.

  • Baytown Community Center, salón Tejas, 2407 Market Street.
  • J.D. Walker Community Center, 7613 Wade Road.

  • Distrito 4: James Franco y Jamari Gilbert.
  • Distrito 5: Kelly Laird y John Farris.
  • Distrito 6: Mike Lester y Joseph Chapa.

What's on my Ballot".

  • HERE Baytown no apoya a candidatos ni posiciones.
