Pet-friendly hotels in Baytown

Two Baytown hotels let the dog stay free, and the rest charge from about $75 to $150 a stay. Red Roof Inn, 8833 N Highway 146, takes one dog or cat at no charge. Motel 6 takes up to two pets per room, with no pet fee posted. Everyone else wants a fee, a weight limit or both, and "pet-friendly" means something different at each door. Cheapest first, for three nights with one dog

Ask before you book.

The cheap nightly rate is not always the cheap stay with a dog, and the weight limit ends more reservations than the fee does.

The list, as posted

Red Roof Inn, 8833 N Highway 146. One dog or cat stays free, and a second is $15 a night up to $105 a stay. The limit is 80 pounds, and you declare the pet at check-in. Check-in is 2 p.m., and some rooms have kitchenettes. It's first on this list because it's the one brand policy that costs nothing for the first animal.

Motel 6 Baytown – Garth Rd, 4911 Interstate 10 East, and Motel 6 Baytown East, 8911 Highway 146. Up to two pets per room, 150 pounds combined at most, and the brand's pet page lists no fee. They are separate pins on the map: one on the freeway with a seasonal outdoor pool, one on 146, and both have coin laundry and truck parking. Pets can't be left alone in the room, and the owner pays for any extra cleaning or repair.

La Quinta Inn & Suites Houston Baytown East, 5215 I-10 East. The brand that built its name on pets, and the page calls this one pet-friendly. It does not post the fee, so ask at check-in. It has an outdoor pool and a free breakfast.

Candlewood Suites Baytown, 6126 Garth. Extended-stay with full kitchens and free laundry. Two pets at most, a vaccination record and a pet agreement, and a non-refundable fee of $75 for one to six nights or up to $150 for seven or more. The kitchen makes it the long-turnaround choice with a dog.

WoodSpring Suites Houston Baytown, 4624 East Freeway. Extended-stay with kitchenettes and weekly rates. The brand says it has pet-friendly rooms at most locations, but this location's page posts no fee or weight limit, so call before you book.

Extended Stay America Suites Baytown, 7212 Eastpoint Boulevard. Up to two pets a suite, with a size limit of 36 inches, and a fee of up to $25 a day for the first six nights per pet, then $15 a day. Full kitchens and 24-hour guest laundry.

Home2 Suites by Hilton, 7512 Garth. Dogs and cats only, two at most, $75 for a one-to-four-night stay and $125 for five nights or more. Free hot breakfast and an outdoor pool.

Hampton Inn, 7211 Garth. The same Hilton numbers: two pets at most, $75 for one to four nights and $125 for five or more, dogs and cats only. Free hot breakfast and an outdoor pool.

TownePlace Suites Houston Baytown, 7238 Garth. Up to two pets, each 40 pounds or under, at $150 non-refundable per stay. Suites with kitchens and free breakfast.

Staybridge Suites Houston East Baytown, 7626 Garth. Two pets under 80 pounds each, at $75 a pet for one to six nights or $150 a pet for seven or more. Kitchens, a breakfast buffet and an outdoor pool.

Comfort Suites Baytown I-10, 7209 Garth. Dogs only, two at most, at $30 per dog per night with a $100 refundable deposit. The limit is 15 pounds, so this is the small-dog hotel, and the strictest weight rule on the list.

Hyatt Regency Baytown – Houston, 100 Convention Center Way. One pet up to 75 pounds, $100 for stays up to five nights. The waterfront choice, with the marina outside the door.

Who says no. Holiday Inn Express, SpringHill Suites and Captain Suites do not take pets. Days Inn and Super 8 point to a brand pet policy without posting a fee on their Baytown pages, so call.

What "pet-friendly" means here

A fee per night or per stay, a weight limit that runs from 15 pounds at Comfort Suites to 150 pounds combined at Motel 6, two pets maximum almost everywhere, and a walk area that's the parking lot's edge. Most hotels that take dogs take cats too; Comfort Suites is the exception. Bring the crate, a vaccination record (Candlewood requires one and other front desks may ask), and declare the pet at check-in. The brand page is the policy, the front desk is the price. Service animals are a different rule: every hotel takes them, no fee, by law.

Where to walk the dog from the hotel row

Nothing within walking distance of Garth is a park. Drive to the Baytown Bark Park at Jenkins Park, 4334 Crosby Cedar Bayou Road, or to Evergreen Park, 1530 Evergreen Road, 119 acres open dawn to dusk, with parking on site. Red Roof if it's one night and one dog; an extended stay with a kitchen if it's six weeks; and either way, Evergreen at seven the next morning for the walk the parking lot can't give you.
