A city of about 3,200 people on the northwest shore of Trinity Bay, roughly eight miles southeast of Baytown. It incorporated in 1966, just as Baytown was annexing strips of land around a planned industrial site.
Beach City is governed by a mayor and a five-member council, nothing more. It runs its own government page with current officeholders, which is the place to check rather than a name printed here — small-city councils turn over. The 1966 incorporation vote, held April 5, passed 103 to 4, and it came as Baytown was annexing strips of land around a planned industrial site; the city has kept its own identity ever since. Its 2020 census population was 3,221. The Beach City Municipal Office at 12723 FM 2354 is open 8 a.m. to noon on Monday and Friday and 8 to noon and 1 to 5 Tuesday to Thursday, and the city asks that any construction have an approved permit before work begins.
Beach City runs about seven miles along the northwest shore of Trinity Bay, and the bay is the reason the town exists. FM 2354, the road that traces the shoreline, was nicknamed Tri-City Beach Road after World War II, when it was lined with weekend cottages for people driving out from Houston, Baytown and Goose Creek. Most of those cottages are gone or rebuilt as full-time houses, but the road still runs the same line, right along the water. The Tri-City Beach Civic Association formed in 1963 to fight beach erosion with breakwaters, and when annexation loomed, the same neighbors turned to incorporation.
Lots here run bigger than a Baytown subdivision — acreage and half-acre bay lots are normal, and a lot of the housing stock is raised on piers, because it has to be. The National Hurricane Center's report on Hurricane Ike in 2008 put the surge on the Bolivar Peninsula and in Chambers County generally between 15 and 20 feet, with the highest FEMA-collected water mark at 17.5 feet about ten nautical miles inland in Chambers County. That is the same storm that left about 90 percent of Oak Island's homes uninhabitable, and Beach City sits on the same open bay. Buyers should check the FEMA flood map and the elevation certificate on any house here before anything else; FEMA offers a free course, IS-273, on how to read a flood insurance rate map. Most of the city is zoned to Barbers Hill ISD, the district based in Mont Belvieu, which TEA rates A (93) for 2026; a smaller strip in the southwest corner, south of Seacrest Park Road, goes to Goose Creek CISD, Baytown's district, rated B (80) for 2026. Which side of that line a house sits on is worth confirming before you fall for it.
The road is named for the beach it used to be. The bay hasn't changed; the houses have just gotten better at living with it.
Two things in and around the city are worth the drive on their own. Yepez Vineyard, at 12739 FM 2354, is a family winery with an adobe tasting room, picnic tables and a patio, open Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 and Sunday from 2 to 7, and closed Monday to Thursday except for special events; the Yepez guide has the rest. The Beach City Volunteer Fire Department, formed in 1967, works out of 12723 FM 2354, the same address as the city office and the Beach City Community Building.
Beach City itself doesn't have much of a restaurant row — it's a residential shoreline, not a commercial strip. The nearest real lineup is in Mont Belvieu. CHILUDOS Fine Street Tacos, at 9209 Eagle Dr, opens at 8 a.m. daily and runs until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Toasted Yolk Cafe, at 13001 Interstate 10 E, does breakfast and brunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day. Lercy's Diner West, at 1419 N Main St, is a weekday lunch counter open 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed weekends. Someburger, at 13399 Langston Dr, is the fast one. Baytown, about the same distance the other way, has the wider spread, from tacos to everything else.
Beach City is squeezed between the two larger towns without belonging to either, which is how it has run since the 1966 vote. Baytown is the closer pull for the hospital, the mall, and Pirates Bay; Mont Belvieu is the closer pull for schools, for the petrochemical jobs that pay a lot of the mortgages out here, and for a Saturday dinner that doesn't require a full drive into the city. Beach City keeps its own identity, bay first.
Is Beach City, Texas a good place to live? If you want bay frontage, acreage, and a short drive to Mont Belvieu or Baytown for everything else, yes; if you want a walkable town center or a restaurant scene, no — there isn't one here, and there isn't meant to be.
What county is Beach City in? Chambers County.
What school district is Beach City? Mostly Barbers Hill ISD; a small southwest section is Goose Creek CISD — check the address.
Who is the mayor of Beach City, TX? Check the city's own officials page, which stays current; we won't print a name here that outlives the term.
Is Beach City at flood risk? Yes — it's open bay shoreline in a county that took a serious surge in 2008. Read the flood map before you buy, not after.
Come for the bay, not the strip mall. Drive Tri-City Beach Road at sunset once before you decide anything, and bring the flood map with you.
- The city office keeps short Monday and Friday hours, closing at noon, and is open all day only Tuesday to Thursday, so call before you drive out for a permit. - Check the FEMA flood map and ask for the elevation certificate before you make an offer on any house near the water. - Confirm the school zone by address, because the line south of Seacrest Park Road splits Barbers Hill from Goose Creek. - Yepez Vineyard is open only Friday to Sunday for regular tastings, and hours change for events, so check its site before you drive FM 2354. - Lercy's Diner West in Mont Belvieu closes at 2 p.m. and is shut on weekends, so plan a later meal at CHILUDOS or the Toasted Yolk. - Tri-City Beach Road is the same road as FM 2354 along the shoreline, so a map search for one gets you the other.
¿Qué distrito escolar atiende a Beach City?
