Baytown Eats by Road: Garth, North Main, Market and the Ring
The road map turns a spread-out restaurant field into a set of usable corridors for a real trip across Baytown and its ring.
Baytown eats along six roads. Garth Road is the chain row and the late-night row. North Main and North Alexander are the taquerias and Mexican kitchens. Market Street and Texas Avenue, the old town, hold the small family places. Highway 146 north is barbecue and seafood on the way to Mont Belvieu. Then FM 2100 in Crosby and Eagle Drive in Mont Belvieu carry their own rows for the ring.
This guide is built from the 650-odd restaurant, café and bar listings in the Baytown data and where they sit. It does not rate; it points. Pick the road first, then open the list for that cuisine.
The short version
- Garth Road, from Baker to I-10: 33 of the city's late-night places, 15 bakeries and sweets, 13 pizza shops, 10 burger spots, 8 coffee shops, and the crawfish pair at 4609 (Happy Crawfish and LA Crawfish). Most national chains in Baytown are on Garth.
- North Main and North Alexander: 20 Mexican kitchens and 14 taquerias between them, from Carnitas El Zacaza at 146 N. Alexander to Sin Fronteras Tacos at 5003 N. Main. Going's BBQ at 1007 N. Main is the barbecue stop on the same stretch.
- Market Street and Texas Avenue, the old town: Baytown Cafe & Taqueria (3507 Market), Chapala Jalisco (1200 Market), Master Taco (2400 Market), C&Ds (2517 Market), El Sinaloense (3002 Market), Bocanegra's Kitchen (214 W. Texas), and Anchor & Hearth at the convention center.
- Highway 146 north: Bullet BBQ (5216), Steve's BBQ (4726), Tony's BBQ and Steakhouse (9545), Hebert's Cajun Kitchen (8222), Baytown Seafood and CK's at 8835.
- West Main: Baytown Seafood (715) and Del Mar Seafood and Oyster Bar (1800); Black Bayou, the Cajun place with a patio, at 1930 Garth.

Garth Road: the chain row and the late row
Garth is the road the city grew up along after the mall came, and it shows. The national names are here: First Watch and Puer Tea at 6320, Five Guys and Brooklyn Pizzeria at 5010, Dutch Bros at 7100, IHOP at 5001, Famous Dave's at 7017, King's BBQ at 4505. So are more than a fifth of the places in the listings that stay open past 11 p.m. (33 of 149).
The two crawfish rooms share 4609 Garth. Heads or Tails and DoubleDave's share 3517. Black Bayou at 1930 is the Cajun place with the patio. KOI Cafe at 4539 and the Starbucks at 4510 and 6231 are the coffee stops. Parking is never the problem on Garth; left turns are.
North Main and North Alexander: the taqueria roads
Head north from the old town on either road and the food turns Mexican. North Alexander has Carnitas El Zacaza (146), La Tequilera (110 S. Alexander, just across Texas Avenue), Chamako's Tacos & Doggos (1402), Los Mariachiles (1600), Mi Parrillada and the Ostioneria El Sol de Mexico sharing 2109, El Cacique Taqueria (2409) and Bases Burgers (2210).
North Main has Jireh Mexican Café and Los Toritos Tamales sharing 1906, The Dirty Daiquiri (2007), Cantaranas Taqueria (3220), Pepe's Tacos (3520), Heart and Whisk Bakery (4618) and Sin Fronteras Tacos (5003). Going's BBQ at 1007 N. Main is the exception on a taco road, a smokehouse in the middle of the tamales.
These are the two roads to learn if you want tacos, tamales, carnitas or a plate of oysters without a chain in sight.
Market Street and Texas Avenue: the old town
The original Goose Creek and Baytown downtowns along Texas Avenue and Market Street keep the small family rooms: Bocanegra's Kitchen at 214 W. Texas, Chapala Jalisco Taqueria at 1200 Market, Master Taco at 2400, C&Ds at 2517, El Sinaloense (Mexican seafood) at 3002 and Baytown Cafe & Taqueria at 3507. Anchor & Hearth, the woodfired kitchen at the convention center on Convention Center Way, is a sit-down room with a patio. The Texas Avenue arts district events bring food trucks on their nights.
Highway 146 north: barbecue and seafood on the way out
North Highway 146 toward Mont Belvieu is where the smokers are: Steve's BBQ & Catering at 4726, Bullet BBQ at 5216, Tony's BBQ and Steakhouse at 9545, and Daniel's BBQ & Meat Market a turn away at 6010 Thompson Road. Hebert's Cajun Kitchen at 8222 and the seafood pair at 8835 (Baytown Seafood, CK's) cover the Cajun side; Sam's coffee shop is at 8313. O'Neals on the Water, on Highway 146 at 2651, is the waterfront seafood room with the patio.
The ring: Crosby, Highlands and Mont Belvieu
Crosby's FM 2100 is a food road in its own right. Four barbecue counters line it: Going's Barbeque Co. at 6500, Straight Off the Road at 6803, Maxwell's Smoke House at 14933 and Frenz at 19128. La Cruda is at 6224. Then Mezcales Mexican Fine Kitchen at 14280, El Trompo Loco at 13815, Peso's at 6512, El Sinaloense Xpress at 5926, and the panadería in the 14045 center next to Hungry Jack's breakfast diner.
In Highlands, Backdraft is the barbecue room at 411 S. Main.
Mont Belvieu's Eagle Drive and its stretch of 146 have Chiludos Fine Street Tacos (9209 Eagle), Cadillac Jack's Breakfast Tacos & Coffee Bar (9118 TX-146), seven pizza shops and six coffee shops for a town of its size.
What the numbers say
In the Baytown listings: 95 Mexican kitchens and 71 taquerias (74 and 53 of them inside Baytown proper), 54 burger places, 43 Cajun and seafood rooms, 39 pizza shops, 33 barbecue counters (19 in Baytown, 8 in Crosby, 4 in Highlands), 31 coffee shops, 11 Chinese, 3 Vietnamese, 7 breakfast houses and 149 places open past 11 p.m. Chinese and Vietnamese are the thin spots, and for those the honest answer is the Beltway or Bellaire Boulevard.
How to use the lists
Each cuisine on the Eat page is an alphabetical list with address and hours where they are posted (hours come from the places' own postings and OpenStreetMap; the card says which). No rankings, no reviews. This guide tells you which road; the list tells you what is on it. Places open and close, so confirm a kitchen is open before you drive across town.
Before you go
- Garth for chains, late night, crawfish, coffee and pizza.
- North Main and North Alexander for taquerias, tamales, carnitas and oysters.
- Market Street and Texas Avenue for the old family rooms and the convention-center kitchen.
- Highway 146 north for barbecue and Cajun; FM 2100 for Crosby's barbecue row.
- Notice how the mix changes from the chain-heavy frontage roads to the older local streets and the roads out to the surrounding towns. That change is the map.

No califica; señala.
North Main y North Alexander
Tiene cuatro asadores de barbacoa: Going's Barbeque Co. (6500), Straight Off the Road (6803), Maxwell's Smoke House (14933) y Frenz (19128).
