Buc-ee's Baytown, as an employer

Buc-ee's Baytown is a 24-hour travel center at 4080 East Freeway, off I-10 at John Martin. It hires for retail, food, stocking, cleaning, fuel and management jobs. The company posts pay ranges by job level, so an applicant can see where an entry job can lead. Apply online through the company careers site.
The short version
- The store hires for retail, food, stocking, cleaning, fuel and management roles.
- Buc-ee's posts companywide pay ranges and benefits by job level. The ranges move, so read the live careers page before you count on a number.
- The store never closes. Nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays are part of the work, and they can open another route into the store.
Why it matters here
Buc-ee's sits where Baytown meets the long I-10 drive east, so the work is both local retail and highway travel service. The Baytown store opened on December 17, 2014, at 4080 East Freeway. ABC13 reported more than 60,000 square feet inside, 96 fueling positions under a canopy nearly three football fields long, and nearly 200 jobs at opening. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records the project as a 60,627-square-foot new convenience store with construction scheduled to finish in December 2014. Buc-ee's still lists the Baytown location as store No. 34. In 2022 the company also filed plans with the state for a car wash tunnel at this store, a $6 million project.
Locals know what that scale looks like before they ever walk through the door: a long fuel canopy, a parking lot that stays active after ordinary shopping hours, and a store built around travelers who may be stopping before dawn or late at night. That matters for jobs. A 24-hour operation needs people at the register, on food production, on stocking, on cleaning and outside around fuel service across several shifts, on the floor, behind the food counters and overnight.
The work is not quiet retail. It is standing, moving, cleaning, restocking and serving customers at a fast pace. Food work adds heat, prep, sanitation and rush periods. Overnight work changes the sleep schedule but can fit a household already organized around plant shifts. Buc-ee's posts a management ladder as well as hourly roles, so the store can be a first job or a longer retail path.
For Baytown, the point is not that a travel center replaces plant work. It is that a large, always-open employer on I-10 creates another kind of paycheck in a town where many families already build life around nonstandard hours.
The jobs run from the register to the general manager
Buc-ee's hires cashiers, food-service workers, stockers, cleaners and fuel-court attendants. It also hires overnight workers, team leads, department managers, assistant general managers and general managers.
The store is open around the clock. A person who can reliably work nights or early mornings may see openings that do not fit a standard daytime schedule.
The pay ladder is unusually easy to see
Buc-ee's posts companywide ranges on its careers page. When this page was written, associates were listed at $20 to $25 an hour, team leads at $23 to $28, and department managers at $33 an hour. Assistant general managers were listed at $125,000 and above, and general managers at $225,000 to $300,000.
Those numbers have moved before. News reports in 2023 put store-level hourly pay at $16 to $21 for line jobs, $20 to $23 for team leads and $25 to $33 for department managers, depending on the store. A more recent write-up of the company's posted ranges lists associates at $18 to $21 and general managers at $175,000 to $250,000 or more. Treat every figure here as a range from a given date and check the live careers page.
The company also lists paid time off, medical, dental and vision coverage, and a 401(k). Earlier on this page the careers page described weekly pay, a 401(k) match up to 6% and double time for hourly employees on major holidays. Those are companywide terms, not a promise that every Baytown opening starts at the top of a range.
Cashiers, Houston area: median $14.11/hr · $29,350/yr (Houston area, BLS OEWS May 2025) First-line retail supervisors, Houston area: median $22.58/hr · $46,970/yr (Houston area, BLS OEWS May 2025)
These are companywide figures, not Baytown-specific, and they are the company's to update.
What's notable is that they exist in print at all. In a town where most postings say "competitive," this one says a number. The company's published ladder is more exact than most.
How to get in
- Apply online. Baytown openings run through the company careers site; the employer table points to the live listing.
- Know the age rule. Buc-ee's lists 18 as the minimum age for Texas store employees.
- Be ready to keep the standard. Cleaning, stocked counters and orderly facilities are part of the work, not background details. Buc-ee's is known for its restrooms, so expect the interview to ask how you handle that kind of work.
- Ask where the ladder starts. Associate to team lead to department manager is a visible route, and the general manager's posted range is the reason people take it seriously. The floor-to-manager day shows what changes as responsibility grows.
- Think about the shift. Overnight and early-morning openings are the ones a plant-schedule household can fit most easily.
Who this job can fit
This can work for someone who wants an entry point without a college credential and is comfortable staying on their feet. It can also fit a worker who wants a retail career with a published management ladder.
The tradeoff is simple: the store never closes. Weekend, holiday, overnight and early-morning work are part of the business.
If you can work nights and keep a standard, it's a first job with a pay ladder you can read in writing, and it doesn't need a card from the safety council.
