X-Ray, MRI & Imaging in Baytown — Where to Go

Baytown has hospital and outpatient options for X-rays, CT scans, MRIs and other imaging. The right choice depends on urgency, the order your clinician wrote and what your insurance covers.

Where to get the picture taken, what to ask about the price without insurance, and why "best X-ray in Highlands" is a question with no answer, because there's no X-ray center in Highlands itself.

If you already have an imaging order, start with what scan you need, whether the location is in-network, and what the total self-pay price would be. Five Baytown options publish their own services and hours:

• Houston Methodist Baytown Outpatient Center, 1677 W. Baker Road — outpatient imaging, part of the Baytown hospital system rather than the ER at 4401 Garth. The Houston Methodist Breast Care Center is on the second floor of the same building. Use Houston Methodist's own imaging locator and online scheduling for the study your clinician ordered. The locator filters by service, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography and bone density.
• Baytown Open MRI, 4310 Garth Road, Suite A — an ACR-accredited open-MRI center that does MRI only: brain, spine, knee, shoulder and other joint studies, no X-ray and no CT. Its own site lists Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday by appointment, Sunday closed. It advertises transparent self-pay rates and says same-day appointments are often available depending on the study. Ask whether it takes your insurance.
• Edloe Imaging Center Baytown, 3711 Garth Road, Suite C — formerly Global Health Imaging, Llc, in the same suite. It lists MRI, CT, digital X-ray and ultrasound, walk-ins welcome, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and says its radiologists are board-certified. Ask what a walk-in without an order gets you before you drive over. It does not say whether it takes insurance or what its self-pay prices are.
• UrgentcareMDs, 1658 W. Baker Road — an urgent care that lists onsite X-rays, lab and EKG, open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Harris Health Baytown Health Center, 1602 Garth Road — radiology and mammography among its services, alongside primary care, a pharmacy and a lab. It is open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the second Thursday of the month ending at noon, parking is free, and patients are asked to arrive 30 minutes early. Its scheduling rules differ from a walk-in imaging center — use Harris Health's own route.

Before you book, ask four things: do you need the ordering clinician's signed order first, is the center in-network, what is the cash or self-pay price, and does the quote include the radiologist's reading. No center here is labeled "cheapest" because no current, apples-to-apples price check exists.

Baytown

Houston Methodist Baytown, 4401 Garth Road, is the full-service hospital, and its imaging department is on Level 1, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Any doctor's order works; scheduling goes through the hospital's imaging line, linked on the health page. Emergency films go through the ER, which is the most expensive door in town, and the ER guide sorts out which door to use.

Urgent cares are the fast route for a wrist, an ankle or a chest film: walk in, get the film, get it read. UrgentcareMDs lists an onsite X-ray, lab and EKG on its own site, and the rest of the urgent cares on Garth and Baker vary. Call and ask whether the X-ray room is running that day.

Urgent cares are for simple films. UrgentcareMDs does not list an MRI or a CT, and neither does any urgent care found for this page. The urgent care guide lists them all with hours.

Chiropractors, orthopedic and dental offices often take X-rays for their own patients only, so they are not a place to walk in for a film. For mammograms, Houston Methodist's Breast Care Center and Harris Health's Baytown Health Center are the two to start with, and the screenings page explains who should get one and when.

The ring

No standalone imaging center is currently listed in Highlands, Crosby, Cove or Beach City in the directory this guide draws on, so there is nothing to rank there, whatever the search box suggests. A correction is welcome if that has changed. Urgent cares in Mont Belvieu are the nearest walk-in option north of the county line, but this page has not confirmed that they take X-rays. Call and ask whether the X-ray room is staffed that day. Everything else is Baytown, or the hospitals in Houston.

Without insurance

Ask for the cash price before you go, in writing if the place will give it to you, and ask what is included: the images, the radiologist's read, and any contrast or extra views. The ER is the highest-cost door for a scan you could have had scheduled, and a freestanding center that lists self-pay rates is easier to compare than a hospital bill that arrives later. Bring the order from your doctor — most centers want one — and ask for the images on a disk or a link, which are yours. If you are uninsured and eligible, Harris Health's Baytown Health Center is the county's safety-net clinic in town.

Reading the results
